E komo mai Hawaii State Bodysurfers and friends

Welcome to the Hawaii State Bodysurfing info blog.

Summer of 2009 and winter of 2009/2010 has got to be the best since I have returned to the islands in 1989. Best in regards of quality and quantity of waves for everyone in Hawaii.

Point Panic was host for the 2009 Redwings Memorial World Championships of Handboarding. Contest director Mike Kilks claimed the waves on the first of the two days were the best and biggest in the 12 years of holding this event. HSBA rising young star Kaneali'i Wilcox won the grand champion final heat with Pipe Champ Mike Stewart, Jeff Hubbard and defending Redwings champ Kai Santos. Another high note HSBA wahine Sanja Du Plessis 2009 Pyramid Rock Wahine Champ place a close second in this event.

The inaugural 2009 1st Annual Pure Point Panics bodysurfing contest was also held in the summer of 2009 by Kanekoa Crabbe. Kanekoa is the son of Point Panic longtime bodysurfer Curtis Crabbe and relative to the famous actor Buster Crabbe (original Tarzan). This event was another wonderful new contest and should be another event to keep going in the future. Kai Santos became the Champion of this first event!

The 2009 Sandy Beach Bodysurfing Championships were also held as usual by contest director Bob Thomas and ohana the weekend after the 4th of July. This two day event was the last to be held by Mr. Thomas. The Hawaii State Bodysurfing Association have stepped up to keep this event going. The HSBA will hold this event in the month of May instead of July.

The 4th Annual Pyramid Rock Bodysurfing Championships was the first kaha nalu event for the new year on 2010. With Kai Santos reclaiming the Grand Championships after winning the inaugural event in 2007. HSBA FBI wahine Leona Noni Roberts became this years wahine champion. Legendary bodysurfer Mark Cunningham also competed and easily took the 50+ yrs division.
